Driver Stabbed in Boa Vista, Two Suspects Arrested in Monte das Oliveiras

Boa Vista, Roraima – A driver was seriously injured after being stabbed during an attempted robbery in the Monte das Oliveiras neighborhood early Saturday morning. Local authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with the attack.

What happened

The incident unfolded around 02:30 h when a 34‑year‑old driver, identified only as S.S., was driving a passenger vehicle through Monte das Oliveiras. According to the Roraima State Police’s preliminary report, an armed individual approached the vehicle at a roadside stop and demanded money. The driver refused, and the suspect—in the company of an accomplice—allegedly produced a knife and lunged at the driver.

Witnesses say the driver attempted to flee but was cornered in a narrow street. During the struggle, the attacker succeeded in stabbing the driver multiple times in the torso. The victim managed to lock the doors and drive away, but collapsed just a few blocks away. Emergency services were called, and the driver was rushed to the local hospital in critical condition, where he underwent emergency surgery.

The arrest

Less than four hours after the assault, police units from the Monte das Oliveiras station, supported by the state’s elite police riot squad, detained two men matching the suspects’ description in a nearby residential area. Both individuals, aged 22 and 24, were found in possession of a knife that matched the wounds described by the victim.

The driver’s testimony, corroborated by several independent witnesses, identified the duo as the perpetrators. Both men were taken to the city’s police headquarters for questioning and have been formally charged with attempted murder, armed assault, and illegal possession of a weapon.

Community response

The attack has sparked shock and concern among Monte das Oliveiras residents. “We live in fear,” said Maria Fernandes, a local shopkeeper who witnessed the incident from her storefront. “The violence seems to be escalating, and we need more police presence and better lighting in the streets.”

The city’s mayor, George Almeida, issued a statement urging the community to cooperate with investigators. “Our thoughts are with the driver and his family during this difficult time,” Almeida said. “We are working with the security forces to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice and that measures are taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.”

Investigation

detectives have launched a broader investigation into recent violent incidents in the area, seeking to determine whether the stabbing is linked to other crimes, such as theft or gang activity. Forensic teams have collected evidence from the crime scene, and police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby businesses to reconstruct the events more precisely.

The driver’s family has asked for privacy while he recovers, but they expressed gratitude for the rapid response from emergency services. “We are grateful for the swift action of the police and medical teams,” said the driver’s brother, who requested anonymity. “We hope he will be fully recovered soon.”

Medical updates

As of Sunday evening, hospital officials reported that the driver’s condition had improved after surgery. He remains hospitalized in stable condition, under close monitoring, and is expected to be discharged in the coming days.

What’s next?

Investigators have warned residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity. A police hotline has been set up for tips, and a press conference is scheduled for Monday to provide a more detailed update on the case.

The Roraima State Police continue to work around the clock to ensure public safety and to bring the full circumstances of the attack to light.
