I'm pretty sure what he doesn't like about Spider-Man is not knowing who he is. He's a big fan of superheroes, as long as their identity is known. When he finds out Peter is Spider-Man, JJJ is Spidey's number 1 fan and will actively help Peter however he can. He doesn't hate Spider-Man. He hates that Spider-Man can avoid accountability for his actions by way of having a secret identity.
If I remember right, it's because of two things, Peter was a vigilante and he hid his identity, unlike most superheroes who you know who they are because they've revealed their identities, like the mutants for example.
That's not a "complex, three-dimensional" character. He's a badly-written pile of random slop desperately stitched together to seem like an actual character. Like MOST comic characters.
There's nothing organic or sensible about any of their perspectives or behaviors.
At least… when taken as a whole. In some cases, there are just a lot of different versions, and thankfully they don't always just get rolled into one wildly disparate and tedious concept.
I think the comic where you learn why he hates spiderman so much is pretty awesome cause he simply was just mad that Peter couldnt save his wife.
He basically hating masks since his wife was killed by a masked mugger. But imagine watching a masked vigilanty swing about the city and saving people making their lives better yet your wife was the exception. basically dismantling your own world ideals due to unchecked prejudice and ptsd.
He just needed an outlet to vent frustration but couldnt see how only made him more bitter not better.

The factoid that the average person eats 2.3 spiders in their sleep a year is actually false. The average person eats none spider George who lives in a cave should not be counted as he eats around 16.6 billion spiders a year
It reminds me of the story where some dude had a fight with a trans guy at his high school, so the principal had pulled him into the office to give him a lecture. The principal started yelling at him for "hitting a girl" so the dude got into a screaming match with the principal, defending the trans guy and calling out the principal for his disrespect. The dude and the trans guy worked together to write formal complaints about the principal's transphobia and got him fired. After that, they went back to beefing and fighting. I think the dude said something like "I might hate that guy, but he's still a man! The principal was being an asshole!"
Still love the theory that he knows Peter is Spider-man and makes him have to deal with bad press because he wants him to keep up the hard work and not rest on his laurels.
I do think if you wanted to ground him a bit more, have him have a dislike for vigilantes who don’t have ties to larger hero groups. A good example would be have him be a critic of daredevil or iron fist too.

That if he really wanted to do things the right way he'd take off the spandex and join the police force, with reports and a bodycam and superiors to answer to.
Whenever he finds out it's Peter, usually because Peter's daily life is being directly endangered, he realizes no, I know this boy, not only is his ideal night hot cocoa and an episode of Dr Who not getting into car-smashing street fights for kicks, he's responsible to a fault, in fact now that I know who it is that's probably his real reason for heroing he felt a duty to help any way he was capable, he wears a mask because he was trying to protect the people around him from being targeted to get to him. People like his aunt. People like me… And every accusation I slung at him he just took it. Even sold me the pictures to run the stories crucifying him. He's not a menace, he's a martyr!
